Singapore Human Capital Summit 2013 Underscores Importance of People Strategies in Ensuring Business Success


STUDY UNVEILED AT SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTS IDENTIFYING AND GROOMING LEADERS AS HAVING THE MOST IMPACT IN DRIVING PERFORMANCE

  1. When it comes to human capital, companies get the highest returns from investments in leadership and talent development. The key areas that have direct impact on business performance include identifying and grooming leaders, developing employees, managing promotions, and employee communications, according to a recent study by The RBL Group and PricewaterhouseCoopers. These insights were revealed today at the Singapore Human Capital Summit (SHCS) 2013, Asia’s foremost leadership and human capital conference.
  2. Held from 11 to 12 September at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore, SHCS 2013 is jointly organised by the Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), and the Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI).
  3. In the opening address, Singapore’s Acting Minister of Manpower Mr Tan Chuan-Jin discussed the importance of human capital in adapting to the global forces that change the business world.
  4. “We must start by strengthening our resilience and future-proofing our fundamentals – nurturing and developing our people to achieve their fullest potential, and tapping on their expertise to bring our organisations to greater heights. We need to understand here that people are our engines of growth and our adaptive tools.” he said.
  5. Minister Tan also dwelt on the need to develop talent, as well as identify and groom leaders – two critical factors that were identified as drivers of business performance in a study commissioned by MOM, “Talent: Asia’s Critical Resource and Potential Export”. The study found that top companies focused first on creating a business case for investment in leadership, and worked to explicitly build a reputation for strong leadership.

Themeweaver for SHCS 2013 and Chief Executive Officer of the Human Capital Leadership Institute (HCLI), Mr Kwan Chee Wei, added, “Establishing the right strategies is often a challenge for many organisations in Asia.
